Title: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 14, 2010, 07:02:32 AM
I really start to like using the word concept as it means it's barely an idea, Not an actual working. :P

I'm just trying to understand how to make the player character feel like TGL...
And I told you, this is merely testing things out on the frame per second, and steps. and movement + Shooting for nonupgraded Variable.
Not to mention only one room.
>>
See it as a playground for the moment. Atleast until the real program + Title screen and room movement etc etc gets into play.
Creating the code from nothing up to workable game is....torture?
Mostly only is one room with a repetative background to nail the FPS/Player Object

Creating Playable Object with same control as Original TGL mode SHMUP part.

To do Prio, TGL mode Coding:
Frames adjustment to movement
Timer Code for certain events(Boss kill etc etc)(WIP)
Timeline Steps for enemies.(WIP)
Enemy Scripts + Sprites + Projectiles. (WIP)
Putting in HP + Score etc etc in the lower part of the View.(Currently testing.)
(4 = Special Wep 1, 6 = Special Wep 2, 8 = Rechargable EE.)

Moving with ASDW, Shooting with 5 Numpad(Up arrow currently.).

Decided to post on the GM forums for the Harder questions to fix.

Mean more of a Data storage where I can upload executables/Zips.

Yes that's what I say. Like a folder for you here on TGL.com u can upload with ftp. Huh?
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 14, 2010, 10:47:40 AM
Think offsite for now is fine. Been playing around with Game Maker to see if I remember how to do SHMUPs. :P

Thanks for the offer though. :)

Id kill for a new game to try... got anything?
Title: Re: Concept Game

I'm not a programmer, I'm merely doing this out of interest. :P
There's lots to program in Game Maker, adventure and TGL Mode, Set enemies, Scripts etc etc.
Not to mention I haven't touched this in years.
Lots of things to play around with.

Heck, I haven't even gotten the Player Object to move correctly even. >.<

Don't expect a miracle. :P

Why you choose GameMaker not MultiMedia Fusion? Because of more tools for free?
BTW why you not want upload files to TGL.com by ftp?

oh BTW I could not download the file lol
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 15, 2010, 10:45:00 AM
Cause I have experience about GAme Maker, since I never tried MMF before.

That's the only reason.

And since it's just me playing around with the code to find out what works for TGL Sequel in my own opinion.
So it's more of a "playground" then actual game. =/
Doesn't feel like it's needed to upload on TGL Since it's just not serious enough.

yeah i couldnt download the file.. just a bunch of different "download" buttons that lead to thousands of ad's.... :-[

I'll see what I can do to get something of it up, still need to fix alot of things. ><
Atleast shooting is fixed, and player movement. Only TGL mode and not Adventure mode yet.

Well I managed to get it, but i could only move with WASD, and couldnt fire, interested to see your progress as it comes along

Use http://www.mediafire.com/ to upload files then. It's new and not garbaged like megaupload.

Oh and BTW reeaaalllyy..!!! Make the game with 640x480 dimension. What the point making NES dimensions? So small screen. You can make double sized sprites to 640x480. At least it's casual game resolution.
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 16, 2010, 06:24:00 AM
Ragnarok: Using Numpad 5 to shoot, make sure you have numlock on.

Arseniy: Aye, I noticed that. :P But right now the coding is more important then the sprites.
I can easily fix the tiles and sprites to double their size and increase their quality easily.
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RagnarokNAJU on May 16, 2010, 08:03:12 AM
well.. I use a laptop... so no numpad! numLock wont work either..
when I emulate I usually use arrows to move and QWAS for YWB&A (SNES)
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 16, 2010, 08:16:49 AM
Didn't thought about that...

Will find a solution for laptop users. =/
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: arseniy on May 16, 2010, 09:18:17 AM
for NES I use arrow keys Z,X and A,S for turbo

I would prefer if the letters resembled up down left right on the Keyboard, as AWDS.
Fixed the scrolling "Smoothing", Added Gunshot sound, Tried to fix the movement speeds, And changed the Numpad 5 shoot to Up arrow(Quick_Fix for now.)

I wish it wasnt so hard to download and full of ad's.. ergh!
there has to be an easier to share this thing..
but yeah, the up arrow works and all.. I was thinking that you might want to fiddle with a sprite for when you move left or right.. liek tilting the ship as per TGL had, just an idea..
Title: Re: Concept Game

Sorry about the adds and all.  =/
I guess I could be able to use Arseniy's FTP, but I have no clue on how to use it.

And yeah, the Tilt is easily input in the game, but I think I should flesh out the more troublesome coding first.

ads hating - sweet :3
You know my income based on the ads ;)
FTP is super easy. U just need some ftp client like filezilla(I use it) and ftp adress + login and password that I can create for you.

omg how to shoot :skull: :skull: :skull:
UP arrow!? Sweet :3
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 16, 2010, 10:27:00 PM
Yeah, up arrow for now, until I figure out which custom key I should have for shooting.

Filezilla, eh. I'll see if I can find it.

Well, got the FTP thing working, don't know how but I did. :p

Now do I just link the file here with the "copy link" to make it downloadable?

And you earn money from the adds? o.o I don't see any adds on this forum at all.

I have other sites and also ads inside flash games I do.
Like here is some of my game on my site gamebalance.com which is not really works at the moment.... Sigh... I mean it works but not the way it should... Oh whatever.

Fun game. :D

Fine then, you'll make the coding! That means I can focus purely on the sprites. :)

lulz! I not make coding for almost 2 years now becuase I collab with programmers. I not like coding really not my cup of tea. Before I did programming but I begin to hate it so started to look for collab work.

Guess I still need to learn coding in GM then!

Bloody codes. :P

What I am currently fiddling with, and I solved the on push tilting.
Now about the release push is another thing. :P I'll show it to you once I figured that out.

I can help with the title screens gfx. Also I have a big pack of fonts I can use them commercially.
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 22, 2010, 02:13:12 AM
Title screen GFX eh.
Sounds like a good idea!

Now....what's the title gonna be like? We really don't have a good aim for where this should be taken yet. :/

As for the Fonts, I think we'll make our own font for the game, why not? :)
Title: Re: Concept Game

Having real trouble with the Release function for the GiF to be stopping. >.<

May take longer to fix then the background thing.
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: arseniy on May 26, 2010, 07:32:46 PM
I have no idea how animation works in GM. In flash is very simple.
So u use a gifs? I think transparent pngs is better choice because pngs have a transparency pixels. Gif has only 100% visible and invisible pixels so you will have troubles optimizing edges of higher resolution sprites.
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 26, 2010, 08:23:34 PM
Nah, that's super easy imo.
I'm more trouble with the coding and the Solutions.

Think I may need to rebuild the Animation from the beginning in the coding with the x Coordinates. =/
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: arseniy on May 26, 2010, 09:34:28 PM
when you come up with some stable engine u can search for artists from deviantart.com. i m sure there can be found some artists who would make a little input - single efforts.

However I still have doubts about GM is a right choice. Maybe you have a look at MultiMedia fusion stuff? I think it should be very similar. If it's more powerful it's better go with MMF than GM IMO.

I can buy a copy.
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 27, 2010, 05:50:52 AM
GM is fine, Arseniy.
It's more then enough for most of the part.
It's more about that I'm not very good with coding at all, I can read Code, but not write it as easily

As for Artists, we'll have to see how that goes once the engine is kinda fixed(It's more of a Object Engine then a engine in itself.)

And no, don't buy a copy. :P

Let's see how far we can get with GM first.
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: arseniy on May 27, 2010, 08:46:13 PM
well. Personally I haven't seen so good games made with GM but I saw commercial games made with MF(noitu love 2 best example) that's my main worry...
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 27, 2010, 08:49:29 PM
I've experienced the other way around.
A hint is to go and watch the yoyogames site for the indie GM games.
You should see what they can make of this.

Then again, they KNOW how to make games. :P

I see it says about some plugin and play a game in browser.
Well I played Iji - it actually was one of the best games ever I saw made with GM.
Yay GM8, last time I checked GM games it was 6 version
Title: Re: Concept Game

Tons of new features, if I ever will buy the game that is.
Using the Lite Version for now.

Anyway, back to the Character Concepts. <.< Miranda and Hokuto needs their description done.

Ps: Find someone who can create games. :P No matter if GM or MMF

What is YoYo? Is it just a GM games portal or is it owned by GM creators?
U right the quality seems improved a lot. It's amazing how this nitherland guys not give up. They so out of competition compare to flash!

But I'll gladly share you with everything I have on the roll at the moment.

Well I think we all look for this to be open source project? :eyeblue1: awesomeplz
I m not able to purcase upgrade for GM yet. I bothered with my primary website. Need to build a php version. I tried make my site with asp.net 2.0 which was a mistake to try it without having 100.000$ lol
Title: Re: Concept Game

But then we'll lose the copyright! D:
But in honesty, I prefer it to be rather more "in closed" rooms, and only certain people would test it out.

Like a real game. :P
Once it's finished however, then it's fine for open Source.
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: arseniy on May 28, 2010, 08:17:13 AM
What u mean about copyright? We not have it. We are fans and the copyright belongs to compile and nintendo i guess?
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 28, 2010, 08:42:12 AM
To be honest, I don't know who has the copyright at the moment for TGL. =/
Brotherhund is still around somehow I think.

But we're still making everything from scratch, and even if it's a fan game, I'd rather have it concealed until it's done.
Just feels better that way.
Most likely only object testing can be public, I think.

Codetest = The GMK file
Test1 = Current Stand Alone Exe file

Still fixing up the backgrounds + Stepspeed vspeed on the background with the timeline.
So only graphically flying at the moment.

Does GM has a blend mode for sprite show?
U see the blend mode is awesome for make some great effects for explosions and other stuff.
Well what effects GM has?(graphical)
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: RandomSpriter on May 30, 2010, 11:08:42 PM
Blend mode?
You mean when they "transform" the sprites to the new sprite that was called?

I think there's a Transform Code in it, but only for the bought version.
Title: Re: Concept Game
Post by: arseniy on May 31, 2010, 02:51:31 AM
I mean any graphical effects.
I would be glad to move to GM if it was commercially profitable but yet I only know how to have income with flash. So I only can take a little parts like making single enemy or something like that.
I'll show u what is add blend mode sometime soon.

I'm testing around with different versions of the health meter, thinking I'll add something alittle bit more dynamic. So it'll not be a copy of the original TGL in that sense.

And aye, Ship movement is ALMOST done moveable wise.(Shield Animation + Release button tilting is the only thing left there.)
