General Talk - simple and fun / What did I miss?
September 21, 2013, 01:45:50 AM
Hey guys, I'm back (for now).

to say the last month has been hectic would be an understatement (suffered burnouts in just about every department of my life); sorry for leaving all the people in here in the meantime.

Any earth-shattering kadooms in here that I missed?

Inspired from "IF you watch this movie/tvshow backwards it's about...." but it instead involves games.

so for TGL it would be  "If you play The Guardian Legend backwards it's about a Miria unlocking corridors so the lifeforms below them could come out and colonise the planet's barren surface, leaving when all 10 corridors have been opened and life once again thrive everywhere on Naju"

So i showed her the game sometime ago, she loved it so much that she went on a design spree with miria, here's 6 of the designs including 2 new weapons and 5 more area "key"s.

So, which one is your favourite?

Hey, might even come in useful for 7Soul with his game :P

Welcome to the Roleplay dedicated to The Guardian Legend - Naju Nexus!

This is Season 01, Episode 02/03, for S01E01 please see here

Setting - The Planet Naju

After the events of the original Guardian Legend where Miria successfully diverted the planet's course from crashing into Earth; Some of the Earth's inhabitants, eyeing all kinds of possibilities with it, have decided to attempt a permanent colonial settlement on it.

Due to the hostile environment of the planet, a full-scale terraforming project was required for civilian and military colonisation. Currently only portion of the surface has terraformed enough for habitat; its current boundaries well defined on the Naju atlases named "Habitability Boundary". Venturing outside the boundary is possible; but would be lethal without use of specially constructed protective suits, or only possible for other non-biological or native beings.

The planet's surface geography is nearly evenly sliced in two by a mountain range that spreads throughout the full circumference. Giving the rise to the terms "Front side" and "Back side" of Naju that describe the opposing sides of the surface worlds. The "Front side" contains all odd-numbered "Areas" and all the terraformed, habitable zones; while the "Back side" contains all even-numbered Areas (except Area 0) with its composition nearly unknown to the population of "Front side".

The "core" capital colony of Naju, "Naju Central", the  "Area 0" of Naju; houses virtually all functions of Naju colony: The administration, military support, transport, and containing the bulk of Naju population. The spaceport included: "Naju Central Airport", serves as the main gateway to other Areas of Naju, as well as the main landing/departing site for space-shuttles and spaceships

The Corridors below the Naju surface are still intact, known as the "Below Surface Worlds", but except for accidental opening of Corridor 19 in Area 9 and just outside the Habitability Boundary (Posts 03~11); all other corridors remain undisturbed and almost the entire non-military population of Naju are blissfully unaware of their existance.

The inhabiting Monsters/Aliens of Naju are still present, some in robotic form, and while they have largely been hidden away from the colony during the terraformation; many are rapidly resurfacing and threatening the colony. This caused a near constant deployment of various generations of Guardian Fighters to constantly keep the alien invasion in check.

But it's only a matter of time before it becomes uncontrollable...

Summary of the previous Episode (up to Post 42)

:bluelander: If you would like to join, just post your character(s) profile here :bluelander:

What appeared to be a routine terraforming task turned into disaster when one of the terraforming cruisers: USF Compile, was hijacked by SHODAN who used it to reawaken the dormant monsters that had been hidden away in Naju's Below Surface Worlds. John Targa and Akrn Salthic were deployed onboard USF Compile to investigate on the situation while other Guardian Fighters (Amet, Killian, Samuel, Letty & Maiorico) were sent on scouting missions to assess the scale of the disaster (of which only Area 1 was deemed in threat to call for temporary evacuation, while Amet never made it to his destination and crashlanded on the Back side of Naju).

John and Akrn were quickly left in a precarious situation when SHODAN transformed the cruiser into a System Shock 2 styled Survivor-Horror. Although they were united with some allies along the way, John felt that only a full destruction of the cruiser would save Naju from being totally annihilated by SHODAN. He successfully crashed the cruiser a small distance from Naju Central's Airport with all cast surviving the crash but leaving the airport and segment of the city in a heavily damaged state.

Amet found himself in the unknown land after crash landing, while he attempts to try contact with Naju Central, he meets up with another inhabitant Rey Seightmour; together, they head back to Rey's hideout, while also attempting to gather as much information about the unknown lands of the Back side.

Meanwhile, a soldier from a far, far away world made an energency reentry in Naju...

Basically, been looking around for artists to make some personal character inspired off TGL/Miria, although I am bumping into the small gridlock at the moment D:

For the post part, the problem the artists are facing is a simple one: It's hard to see how the wing-blades, turrets and engines position on the character's back as well as the transformation sequence

and you lot know how vague the NES sprites show it :P

So yeah, anyone in here as TGL fans good at drawing? Maybe  if i am able to get a "fan's interpretation" of the transformation sequence and pass it on it might help  :bluelander:

Just thought i'd ask...

Video share / [TGL:SE v3.3] Seeeeeeeeeeekeeeeeeeeeers

I like to think of those fireballs as little "kids" of Miria; where they were sent out here to prove their worth to become the next generation Guardian Fighter... or something.  :bluelander:

I know i am tentatively calling this version 3.3, that's because i have  so many different v3.2s i lost track which is which. So i renamed  this one 3.3 out of caution i get mixed up with old ones @_@

Optomon: you said sometime ago about the bug with the enemies not appearing in Corridor 14, hope they're fixed in here.

Included corridors: 00, 11, 12, 02, 13, 03, 14 and 04 (01 not done for obvious reasons)

I think it would be a good idea if it could be installed in the main site  a "Video Shares" page where there will be a comprehensive listing for various gameplays of The Guardian Legend (and its successors)

examples of categories:

  • TGL Regular gameplay
  • TGL "Let's Play"s
  • TGL Speedrun
  • "TGL" mode playthrough
  • Bosses walkthrough
  • Bloopers
  • Glitches (unintentional)
  • Wonderlands (intentional)
  • Password Fun (ref: This thread

Also can include

  • TGL:SE gameplays
  • TGL-inspired games (e.g. Rikerok)

and so on.

Empty Corridor - With ordered background (usually the "pipes" of Naju), but no enemies spawn, just endless pipes
Fixed Spawn - Corridor has glitched monsters that can be defeated, glitchy background does not change when one goes to weapon select and back out
Wild Spawn - Corridor may have glitched monsters that can be defeated, glitchy background does change when one goes to weapon select and back out

bb3b bbbb bbbb bbbb
bbbb bbbb bbbb bbbb

Starting Health: 30
Starting Chips: >9999 (Approx 31,000 chips!)
Starting Keys: 6 of 7 (no Areas 3 and 4)
Starting Attack: 4
Starting Defence: >8 (judging at the fact that Miria sprints instead of walk)

Open Corridors: 01, 02, 05, 06, 16, 08 (don't know about 03, 13, 04 and 14 since i don't have that key yet)

But then again you can always memory edit addresses $0050 and $0051 for the desired corridor

Have fun  :bluelanderbig:

Minor graphical glitch on the Boss of Corridor 03 on v3.2 , appears fine in version 3.0

General Talk - simple and fun / Where did everyone go?
December 03, 2012, 08:08:09 AM
Back in the days when TGL:SE3 came out in early october and the introduction of AlastorSX this place was bustling with activity

and now we seemed to have returned to the  usual "~4 posts a week" idling... D:

Thankfully i managed to "preserve" a significant portion of my dream intact (well, i just woke up 4 minutes ago XD); although some parts were impovised to make it have more sense.

The story took place on a Naju-like planet; where instead of the real TGL; this one had the "surface" (or let's call, Area 0) intact with the original civilisation: cities, markets, and inhabitants. The "monsters" had not penetrated through to the surface (or the inhabitants were simply oblivious of it - some even kept them as pets); although deep in the underground works the evils lurked within

The self-destruct sequence had been activated - but involuntarily; the reason for activation was not explained; but throughout the dream I remember having two timers: a "Master" time and a "Corridor" time[1]. The inhabitants have not been warned of the destruction, and even if  the alarms had been sound there wasn't enough time to get the people to the evacuation pods.

If the "Master" time falls to 0, it's all over - the planet kabooms taking its inhabitants, and me, with it.  I don't know what happened when "Corridor" time dropped to zero [2] since one part I was well into zero by the time i cleared it

No idea who I "played" as: possibly "the" Miria or the more generic "Guardian Legend fighter" - although I remember a significant portion involved fighting as a plane. although like in actual TGL; i was the only one capable  of stopping the whole calamity from occuring, but there were people throughout the inner parts of the planet mostly to give (un)helpful hints [which RPG doesn't?]

Two types of shooter-part corridors existed: the actual corridors where I have to prevent/slow down the self-destruct sequence from occuring; and the secondary corridors that was unconnected but I still cleared them anyway because possibly I needed to to get either 1) access to the next corridor 2) powerups 3) stop its monsters from reaching the surface and eat the inhabitants for lunch

Now for the actual content:

The earliest part I remember is failing to clear the shooter part of a secondary corridor, twice[3]. i "woke up" realising that I need to simply give it up and head to the final corridor, but it was on the wrong end of the map - and I had only 16 minutes left on the master clock.

So i sprinted as quick as I can to each the place where corridor 10 would've been - somewhere near a supermarket. And the route was a massive puzzle guzzle of pathways, underground chutes, monsters to clear on the way and running into people in Area 0

[Two endings happened after this point]

[Ending 1]
Got to the supermarket - but the time now showed 3 minutes remaining - it was all over: there just wasn't enough time to save the planet. So i thought, why not treat myself to some fancy final meal?

Bought myself some yummy food and literally just watched the master timer ticking away while observed the inhabitants continued to be completely unaware of the disaster coming.

Master time reached 0:00; seconds later a rumble was felt from deep underground - the alarm "finally" sounded and the people scrambled in panic.

And I simply just stood there.

[Ending 2]

Got to the supermarket - still with a barely saveable 7-minutes remaining on the Master time; but I needed refreshments - fast.[4]

Bought myself some food; but ended up being criminally shortchanged by the cashier [5]. Eventhough i knew that I barely have time for this anymore but i argued away anyway (don't ask why); left myself with 5 minutes and about 40 seconds to go before I gave up.

Didn't manage to leave the market before I woke up, though  :( I got "distracted" again by a long time "friend" who just happened to be there and in a flash of genius I wanted to talk to her instead of saving the planet

===================
Hope you enjoyed this piece of randomeness  XD

[1] - in real TGL terms, it woulod involve the time clearing the whole thing - Area and the two Corridors

[2] - I guess it can be impovised as the time needed to clear a particular area/corridor? IF you clear the place on  time the sabotage is slowed and you get time extension on master  time - but if you fail, it is successful and you don't get extension

[3] - if you "die" inside a shooter zone, you don't "game over" but merely thrown back out of the zone; but the time keeps ticking

[4] - anyone ever tried clearing Corridor 10 with just < 4 health remaining?

[5] - like trying to buy a $1 sandwich with a $5 note but only get 40 cents change back.

I remember seeing a screencap of a thread where people talked about the topic. It resulted in some of the most hilarious posts ever:

E.g.

Uncarted - Go around collecting stuff that has fallen out of shopping carts
Ass Effect
Need for Seed - Farmville wannabe
Little Bi Planet - Bisexuals. Everywhere.

So let's see what sort of creativity YOU lot can have!  :bluelander:

I'll start with:

Guardin Legend - You're a wee guard inside a new legend story, will you be remembered or will you be the first to die in the epic finale?

yes, you have to talk about what your new title is about.

As the title- let's see what sort of games people here have been playing (Other than TGL-Secret)  :bluelander:

here's a partial list of mine:

- Super Bomberman 5 (SNES)
- Battle City [and its "Tank 90" hack] (NES)
- Crystal Mines [Boulderdash-like game] (NES)

so what's yours?
