Alright. So, here we'll have a thread for my indie FPS called Megiddo City.

First it started off as a cyberpunk shooter called Overload: Back To Basics, then it mutated to the Gears Of War'ish third-person shooter called Project Savior and had two alpha versions released (powered by Dungeons3D and ZDoom engines). Then, I've decided to create a 2D side-scrolling prequel called Thunder Angels using the Game Editor engine.

Then I've re-watched Game Trailers' Metroid Retrospective and renamed the whole franchise to Megiddo City. It's a non-linear first-person horror shooter in the vein of Metroid Prime and Resident Evil: Gun Survivor. It's powered by ZDoom engine and features a soundtrack by Andrew 'Necros' Sega (most famous for his music in Crusader: No Remorse and No Regret). And of course, you all may be wondering - 'What does this all have to do with TGL?'

Well, our main characters in the first game are female cybernetic space marines, featured on this wallpaper:

More project details can be seen on my blog - http://e-u-l-mk2.blogspot.com/search/label/PROJECT%20SAVIOR
...and on ModDB - http://www.moddb.com/games/project-savior
Also, there's a VK.com group - http://vk.com/megiddo_city

The first two links feature very outdated news, but once I'll have a handful of screenshots, I'll update both.  8)

UPDATE
We got a new subtitle - 'Shin Kami Tensei' ('The True Reincarnation Of God'), as a tribute to Shin Megami Tensei ('The True Reincarnation Of A Goddess') franchise and a new tag in my blog: http://e-u-l-mk2.blogspot.com/search/label/Megiddo%20City

There are several reasons. For example, the plot is too long for one game, as is the gameplay style (parts 2 and 3 will be closer to traditional Doom-ish gameplay). Also, the player characters and setting will be different. And besides, with constant sequels/prequels/reboots nowadays, it's rare when the number of sequels is announced beforehand  :D

arseniy

Well I think it is right to make one part a whole finished story. Don't you know what happend with Matrix 2,3?
As for the length of the plot, maybe you trying to put a book into the game? Maybe it's more resonable to try cut of the plot and keep only the best stuff?

Of course it's up to you but with my experiance I can tell you that it's pretty hard to make even one part of good game so it is better to not announce any sequels.

EinhanderZwei

Yeah, I'm well aware that The Matrix 2 & 3 are some of the most useless sequels ever. I just don't want the game to suffer from what I call 'the Final Fantasy syndrome', when during the 69th hour of gameplay you want to strangle the characters, shouting 'GET TO THE F%#KING POINT!!!!', so I've had to split one game into three. And nope, it's not a book adaptation - the story was written specifically for a videogame.

But I agree with you - it's hard to create even one good level (that I've failed miserably in the demos), so the quality doesn't really depend from the game length. There are games like Metal Gear Solid 1 and old-school Resident Evils that are short but terminally sweet, and also there are really long games like Ys II or The Ultimate Doom which are just as awesome and never boring.

arseniy

Well it's up to you. But with my experience I can tell it's better not to plan sequels.

Not really! This is the games thread, it's ok! Downloaded it already, maybe I'll play it tomorrow.

I'm afraid I don't understand how to run it. It asks me for an IWAD, but I don't have it.

Ya, you'd have to download it from http://www.nongnu.org/freedoom/download.html (please use the 'Complete IWAD' link)
And also ZDoom from http://zdoom.org (GZDoom is not recommended yet - minor graphical glitches)

Besides I had to crank my monitor brigthess to eleven to see something, I have no idea what to do. Perhaps I'm missing a keybinding?

That's odd, it's not supposed to be THAT dark... And there are no special keys to be bound, just walking, shooting and 'using'... actually, I've built the first level for mostly the 'what the hell is going on factor', so the player is confused as strongly as the main character is  :redlander:
