1. The first time I wrote on play basic. I did not have not enough experience, and play basic it has appeared paid. (2008)

i really feel that a remake on the same format as the original would be awesome... instead of 3-d and new age expensive feeling.. it wouldbe cool to have a NES or even an SNESfeeling to the game.. just a thought

yes i agree, i don't think 3d is necessary , i would love to see a SNES remake
(but if someone wants to do a 3d version, by all means, go for it)
If it were to be as a SNES one, 3D should probably not the be a good choice, there's been alot of good games that got abit "ruined" by making them 3D, like Blaster Master, another classic, went from 2D to 3D and it was pretty famous for being "Akward" without having the old feeling of it being a unique gametype.
If you'll be trying to make it more SNES feeling, a simple retouch can make a good impression Like for example. Let me whip something up in a second.
Edit: If you were, for example, to make a smoothening of the Original sprites(Although it's more like a ReMake then a scratch sprite.) to make it able to hold double the pixel frame, we could somehow get the old feeling of it being the original yet with a touch up. Like this one I made in a few minutes.

It gives you a more of a "same" feeling.
Of course only a touch up of the sprites can only go so far, with the level design still may be of a newer taste if you were to change it to make it more of a "new" game. But Copyright as well may come in the way if this project were to leave the ground.
There's alot to think of here, heh.
If you possible were able to use the touched up sprite in your Play Basic programming, Teremocheck?

Also, I love the feeling of being overwhelmed in that last screenshot you have, Tere.
Even if it will be 3D(which I doubt) we all are intrested to make some special atmosphere like original one have.
Personally I think it will be 2D tho. This way is more possible to keep project open for single effort enthusiasts like creating a one enemy sprite.
You already thought of the single effort helpers as well, There one second, gone the next. Poof.
That's one of the reason I can only help out with alittle things, since I am one of those as well. Bleh.
Well, even with that in mind, creating new sprites is quite a lot of work, especially if you were to create new big sized bosses(Although with the limitation from NES to PC is extensive, Animated Sprite Bosses is fun yet tedious amount of spritiing on the quality.).
It's still Tere's programming that may be quite a big progress from ideas to actual programming, he has already done the World Walk, Fly Zone in real programming code, which is quite a feat.

Not just any bosses, BIG ones. Even Fleepa is insane big in the game. And think about spriting that. >.<
For example I m flash developer. U can use tween animation in flash. It can save lots of time than frame by frame. I think Fleepa can be animated like that. So you create a separate parts of Fleepa and then move them with tween animation.
I would love to see not a remake of old but something new. Original game is perfect already in a way.

Well that's where we're different, I like doing things frame by frame, even if it is tedious. ;)
That's the only way they could make NES and SNES games back in the days, that's the reason I want to become a good enough spriter.
Even though I kinda need a break from my own game in development, just to get some ideas for spriting as well that I like TGL alot.

I can't agree with this. It can be kinda illusion. U see sometimes the idea potentially grow in many people and once someone pronounce that it goes like boom. Like a spark which fire up wick and then dinamites that was already in the heads explodes. So this is just illusion like an top of iceberg.
I must say I m against positive thinking and other concepts like "your life is what you believe", karma etc... I find this ideas lower down moral and soft responsibility. Making us a parasites.

First off i like to say vailiant efforts going on here.

Blaster Master can EASILY be done in 3d an look good.. and retain its roots.. the recent remake of the origional bionic commando proved that.. in fact after its release that game creator stated he WANTED to do a similar remake of blaster master.. BUT sunsoft rose from the ashes and came out wit the crap thats now on the wii.

so yes.. a decent 3d remake.. I possible.. just.. not been attempted yet.
remaking the origional with updated graphics.. and music..would make one hell of a start..an would be loved by all.
the experience gained from that should be enough to give you guy what you need to know to move on with your own spinoff.
a for the need for music.. im sure asking around at the OCremix site would easily get you some artist more then willing to help out int he music department.. IF you can PROVE that your already on track with a solid game for them to put thier time to.

played the flash demo.. nice start.. ALOT of bugs sand flaws to it that make the game barely playable though.. including 1/3rd of shots going through enemies instead of registering hits.
avatar movement becomes stationary between rooms forcing the player to repress the movement button to continue moving foreward.
enemies were based on their color and difficulty.. red and orange being higher up then blue and green.. yet starting out with high reds with a starting out gun is just a bad way to start the learning curve for new players.

Unite is good to increase power. I sure you 1 person is so little to make medium game as TGL. It's hard work.
I make games in collab with programmers. It takes 1-3 month to produce simple flash game.

Well, I know something about that... There was - honestly - no plan to complete it 100%, perhaps only the first two dungeons and two main corridors.
if u want do some gfx, make separate elements. No need to draw whole corridor bcuz it will be changebale. Or if u do whole corridor sketch then no need to put all effort into sketch. When u do static thing it is very different than when u see it in action.
I'd still like trying vector graphics. But it's somewhat difficult to "read" those pixelated sprites. I use Inkscape which supports clone object by default so I am "natively" thinking in a modular way.

In the first, Now it is necessary to define characteristics of objects - Speed, Lives, Points, Damage and another. Laborious enough work if to consider that some objects don't give in to understanding)
In the second, all will need to be coded and programmed it.

Sprites are necessary in a format png, against rgb (255,0,255), in four color palette, under the classical permission (256x224).
Please, don't do too much, and that it will cause difficulties.
Once they are vectors I can rasterize them in whatever format you want.
I think inkscape outputs png only but I will convert with the gimp if necessary.
What about the dimensions? No love for power-of-two dimensioned thingies?
I've almost completed a conversion of a sample screenshot just to have an idea of how it could look like, but I'm having some difficulties and I do that only in my spare time, which is very little right now.

A so aggressive color reducing will require a professional pixel artist IMHO. Automated conversion will hammer away the details.
Because I create game in classical style. If the Picture is not four color it will break game atmosphere.

I'm certain he means that he wishes to only use 4 colours, but the gameplay can be different even with the same graphical setting.
Controls, story, effects can be updated with the same graphical setting, keeping to the original. :)

Well Things are going slowly. I have made remakes of the four corridors (it was hard). And now I want to make a new one. The game works only Flight Mode. If all goes as before, then I'll try to make the editor corridors. These Projects will I do until November, no more.
How to finish a new level, I will deal with the sounds and music. Will then be released.

I made a cfg file, it can choose any screen resolution and other settings. During the game to change anything.

Yes. As I said before, I did five corridors. Lacked the patience to do more. Problem was that in the original game tiles background 8 to 8, and I have a 16 to 16.
Therefore, in some places are made correctly. Of course this is theoretically possible to fix it.
But I think it's not the point. I wanted to show what can be done corridors as in the original and new ...
I would love to see high-resolution sprites. I have no idea how your project works. I think having a native resolution for sprites as 1024x768 is cool. Or maybe even the higher the one you used - 1280x800 - is it HD???
If the enginge you use can filter the sprites then can be used mixed resolution sprites. They will be scaled and filtered.
I think in HD the stats panel can be a side one.
There is some issue I hear. The sounds prevents by other sounds. When you hit boss the sound of hitting boss stops most of the time without played to the end.

But what are the controls???
I only figure fly with arrow keys, shoot SHIFT.
SHIFT is bad idea to use. Better to use something from A,S,D,F. Or Z,X.
I got to level 2 it told me I got items but I can't find pause menu to choose special weapon.

I think you should set the lower default resolution for downloaders. We do not know what resolution people usually have so 1024 or little less would be fine.
I like the fact I can change the scale. It's great thing that can be played on any screen comfortly that way! I set up 4x4 scale for myself.
Also should be included controls description. I found the pause is [TAB] and special weapon launch is CTRL
The normal bullets shoots very very slow which is not good I think. Maybe after get a speed upgrade or blaster upgrade they should be more frequently shooted?

If the mean velocity of the charge, then everything must be as the original.
And if there is a view of the sequence - the time between two shots. This option I have not yet set up.

The fact that the bosses fixed amount of health damage.
And if you do the opposite, then the boss will either be incredibly strong, or incredibly weak.
Therefore, every boss must be the place.
But all the monsters have to have Variables characteristics.
At each new territory, the monster increases its performance twice. (original)

factor = 2 (monster hp*2, monster damage*2)
It didn't fit my screen. So I set it to 800x600.
But it didn't go the way I expected.
The game size affects with scale. The width\height is just a window size and actual size is scale. set scale to 2 or 3 it should work

I tried playing the new revision, but since Shift shoots, I can't inactive "Slow keys" so each 5 presses of shift in a hasty matter makes a new window pop up and makes the game inactive and I die. XD
That's why I tell - SHIFT is really bad idea to use in game :skullr:
When I came up with management, I thought about game "DOOM".
Fix in the next version for Z,X,C.
A,S,D is better choice because some keyboards(german for example) will have x or c somewhere else.
also having option to move with W,A,S,D would be kewl :3

For what it counts, my WASD buttons produce ,aoe. That's right. ZXC buttons produce 'qj. Please bind by button.

Greetings TGL'ers. Your forum is tricky to join. I was at a friend's who had the cartridge out for his kids and so I started reflecting on how awesome of a game this was, and as I had heard news of things like the Bionic Commando remake and Metroid 2 remake, I was kind of hoping I might find a sequel or remake for this game when I found this forum. So I'm on page 3 of this thread when I remember, hey you know what might be awesome? I'm no coder, but I do play guitar, and love video games and their music, and I have tabbed out this soundtrack from start to finish on one file which, with a little bit of labor, can be split up into all the individual tracks. But first, I have to google what the planet and fish are called, 'cause for the life of me, I have no idea. =P (Awesome captcha idea, btw.)
But anyways, I have a 64kb MIDI file of the entire soundtrack with near exact replication (if not exact), which I figured you all may be interested in. I also have Synthfont and a variety of soundfonts to go with it that I can provide different instrumentation to the MIDI tracks so as to modernize/update/modify their sound, if that's something you might like for this effort.
As a third (and more difficult option), my guitar chops are pretty decent, and as there's no drums to this soundtrack, and only 3 tracks, it's fairly possible I could record each track on Audacity and make guitar/rock versions of these songs.
If the attachment process in these forums will work for these file types, I have attached the MIDI file (audio playable through your generic media player) and the .ptb file (power-tab file, guitar application to learn to play it). (File size too large - 136kb, lol, just shy of the 128 limit.)

PS - The for the Soundtrack arrangement, I generally tried to organize the tracks in the order they first appear in the game, and I only repeated the theme once, as it's already 10 minutes long. :)

This midi seems to fit perfectly to the original tune. I not sure if this 100% match but sounds kida.
So I played through and beat it again. A couple things:
1) You get 10 Shields. Ten, of which I think only 7 are used. And 4 guns, the fourth being right at the end. How useful.
2) I found out the composer's name is Miyamo Shant, and he did the soundtrack to another game: Zanac.

In my opinion TGL is 10 times better than Zanac. Maybe they did bad marketing. All the covers of the cartrige and box are horrible. Or course japanese picture is nice but it's not attractive for a game to buy. I think the game graphics itself is way better than any box\cartrige cover TGL had(EU,US,JP)

No. This is not how open source is supposed to be used. And that's not how mods are supposed to be made. The Right Way to do this is to use data-driven techniques, for which you don't need code.

I have not looked at it in a while (some elaborations on code design a few pages ago). It looked fairly code-oriented rather than data-oriented. I sincerely hope the code was refactored since then because it looks quite complex to maintain.

No. Frozen!
The last thing done. I copied from the emulator all the flying corridors, But they are without monsters, and need to be improved. (Corr 5,6,7,8,9,10)
Another idea was to expand the screen by increasing the number of tiles. (Widescreen version). But for this I need to finish the corridors. (Tiles left and right ..)
At the moment, I am again developing games, but - a map generator for Heroes 3. Perhaps after that I will continue TGLBM ..
Hm. A map generator, who needs that when there are so much maps created?
