Optomon: you said sometime ago about the bug with the enemies not appearing in Corridor 14, hope they're fixed in here.

It was actually never a problem to begin with since the data I thought was enemy data not appearing in corridor 14 was really Clawbot's graphical tileset assignment data, which led to the Clawbot "minor graphical glitch". The correct enemies are shown, except they are blue, which might have something to do with Area=14 in the video.

Any other thoughts? I don't have much time to change this thing if people think it's hideous.

I had already provided different screenshots. And you are not the only one to complain about the cover art, it seems highly unliked. I'm trying to see if I can pitch for a cart reminiscent of the Eurpoean NES cart.

Not sure about a name but looks like a fun game, reminds me of Solomon's Key, but only a little bit.

I decided to have Guardian Legend Secret Edition put on cart, so it could be played on NES. I requested to have it available for selling on this site, "Lost Classics":

http://www.lostclassicvgs.com/collections/frontpage/products/the-guardian-legend-secret-edition

This would be for NES cart, I'm not exactly sure what cart would be used outside North America. I do not care about profiting from this game or that someone else is. The cart label is just something I cooked up a couple years back, using one of the fan arts I found on this site.

Thoughts?

The Guardian Legend / Re: 25 YEARS ANNIVERSARY!!!

I have way too many stories about this game. This game could be almost described as a lifelong obsession.

I first played it in 1990, when I was 5. I watched my older brothers play it before the nintendo eventually before the Nintendo ended up in my bedroom. I think I was 8 when I first beat it. I remember beating it on TGL mode when I was 10, and my primary hurdle at the time was red optomon. I have two memories of crying because I couldn't beat him, which is pretty pathetic, but hey, I was a kid and Nintendo was everything. I also discovered the evil J code.

So many times I had imagined new levels to play for Guardian Legend. On the playground at school I would wander around and imagine certain places were levels and things were objects found in the level, thinking up new variations of bosses and enemies and weapons. In high school, I doodled maps and levels and everything. I was always wrapped up in my own little world for some weird reason, determined to make my own TGL game.

When I was 14 I tried to get new levels by spending countless hours using game genie. When I was 18, I discovered that I could modify the game using a computer, and spent further more billions of hours trying to understand the games code. By the time I was 20 I had completely modified the over world map. I would slowly go back and things to it over the years, bosses, corridors and everything I could make.

The result of all this self absorbed determination is the present day Guardian Legend Secret Edition. It is a fitting monument to my lifelong obsession I suppose. Perhaps my dream was to share the obsession and relate to others who had it to some degree. Carts of the game are about to be public. It is very fulfilling to see others play new levels they might have imagined at one point in the last 25 years or so.

Guardian Legend is a lost classic. Had it been more popular it could have spawned a huge franchise with loads of games. Hopefully we see that by 2038.

Dang, that eyeball. It's color is no where in the code as far as I can tell, except that when you change his color the eyeball also changes color. This make me think it's embedded somewhere in his compressed graphics. Oh well, no one probably knows what I'm talking about.

This is very similar to the debug code I use, if not identical, which is:

ssss ssss ssss ssss
bbbb bbbb bbbb bbbb

Very useful for testing the game, because it's so damned easy to type in.

The E should be fixed now.

The eyeball, could might be able to change it to blue to make it less square looking. Otherwise it's not too bad of a bother. I'll still see if it can be done.

As for the getting nothing, I don't know what that's about. That happens in the normal game sometimes too, I think. Possibly a side effect from some of the changes I made to the game.

The rom should already be updated in the link in the other thread.

I honestly can't remember the strategy I used to kill that miniboss, but he was very tough.
#42
Fixed! Yellow clawbot was also infected.

If there is an issue like that, definitely report it.

Accidentally corrupted Clawbot graphics while editing the enemies for corridor 14. I mistook the bytes for graphics for enemies. Now I know why the extra mushrooms weren't showing up...

Also changed the title screen:

Gah! Fixing immediately!

Yeah the only change is the final is to stabilize the final boss pretty much, and had to change one of the enemies a little to do it.

Regarding the second green fireball... I think well know where it is.., : (

Like this?

I don't think Broderbund would mind.
