I guess I can see where you're going with the name and personality, but I feel that someone who is forced upon this task would end up very similar to this personality anyway... you can tweak it around if you want! I do have other names though; Sakura (I still think it's a nice name, and it kind of fits the hair style in a way) was just my personal favorite.
My other choices (Staying with the japanese theme, some may sound better with -Chan at the end) are: Misaki, Hikaru, Natsumi, Chii, Yasuko, Haruhi, Mariko, Akari, Itsuki, Rina, Neko, Maru, Hikari, Kuro, Shiro, and Midori. I feel Misaki would be the best alternative if you decide on a different name XD.

I have no money, decades of time, and quite a lot of experience creating custom games that use the original Zelda 1 engine with many upgrades (Zeldaclassic dot com for more details. Using unlisted 2.5 beta builds by the way! use google to find those!). I spend most of my time working on a comic that bases it's battles and story off of standard RPGs and animes generic "kill the Demonlord" objective (it's supposed to make fun of the objective while making the main villain as awesome as the hero, but the hero gets the girls [yeah that's right girls!]!), but the characters are stick figures. also, the main villain was human and the main hero's rival before an accident that killed him. Listen to me rant about my comic lol :P. Anyway... TGL is my favorite game ever! It even beats all of the zeldas in my opinion (and i've played EVERY zelda game ever :P! Waiting for Ocarina of Time 3ds and Skyward Sword lol.). I will definetly donate money if I get an income someday, but until and after then I will donate whatever time I have to this! This is dedication to a project!

I was actually thinking of doing that but I also wanted to keep it 8-bit... I'll see what i can do with 3 just colors per sprite!

I imagined it working with the overhead view using a deadzone like wii fps's, but the deadzone would be on the character instead of a cursor and only be side to side keeping the shooter gameplay fresh yet original. This could add more strategy to boss battles in the corridors since you'd have to turn more often to find the boss's weakpoint. But you'd still have the classic boss battle style as well for others like :optomon:...

All range mode like in Star Fox 64. Free movement around a map that turns when you turn. Like say your ship gets to the left side of the screen and you keep pressing left; the camera will start to turn/twist/whatever left. Get it? XD

well... there's only 1 custom boss idea so far... here's my idea!

hope this image uploads, it's a rough draft that took me quite a few minutes.

Name: Dropha
Description: Giant membrane encased in diamond with an eye in the middle. Diamond spins clockwise.
Attack Pattern 1: Moves similar to Optomon but moves up and down freely to strike. Fires 1 turret bullet at a time when eye is open. Opens and closes eye at random. (when eye is open it's vulnerable)
Attack Pattern 2: At 50% health diamond starts to crack. fires 3 turret bullets. Eye starts to open less.
Attack Pattern 3: At 25% health diamond is destroyed showing brain-like membrane. Constantly fires turret bullets. Eye stays open because it has no shielding.

Any spriter can pick up on the image and make higher detail and/or a full sprite sheet if you want. Anyway... Does it sound good?

About the use mouse to aim thing... That wouldn't go so well on a laptop. Just saying... Anyway, the "overworld" should be more like Zelda dungeons, where you need a specific puzzle solved to continue, or you need a specific item to reach this area. Off topic: I also suggest "all range mode" in some of the corridor bosses (just putting things in the mix :P).

Well... I know this is pretty biased... But I really like the name Sakura (Japanese name meaning Cherry or Cherry blossoms) I personally would use this name because it's a japanese game, and it would keep with the RED theme of the main character.

Physical stats? I would say:
eye color: red (unlike Miria's blue)
hair color: lavender (pale blueish purple)
hair style: short (cut down to mid-neck), bangs cut and hanging over forehead, center fade
breast size(she's female! we can't forget this.): A cup (smaller means more athletic :P)
age: 16-20 (sometimes age can change the cuteness level and she needs to be cute XD)
height: 4 ft, 11 in (not too tall, she needs to be able to fit in smaller spaces)
weight: 105 lbs (she needs to be skinny, but not too skinny)

As for personality: a girl who acts violent yet is actually very innocent behind her somewhat dark "shell". She should actually be willing to risk her life to save someone she doesn't even know. She should also get embarrassed easily (normally she'll get mad when she's embarrassed :P). Maybe if she is with more people she could develop a love interest as well.
