The Guardian Legend / About all the spams lately...

I think you need a random code generator, Arseniy =/

As most as you know, the game control I had in mind for my remake test, it was rather akward.

Firstly having the arrows up down left and right as shooting/Equips and suchs, the more and more I had ideas to expand it to another way.

The thing I had in mind is that movement up down left and right will stay WASD as usual, but using the Numpad for more diverse controls and usages.
Trying to "replicate" a NES controller might be an idea, but instead of 2 buttons, you'll have about 9 at the tip of your fingers.

WASD = Movement.
Q = Quick Check Map screen(Hold down to see, release to get back, DOES NOT STOP THE GAME(Adventure mode function usually little use in TGL mode.)
E = Secret Screen(Will be announced soonish. ;) )

Numpad 7 8 9 = Sub weapons(Chips, you can have 3 Weapons shootable at same, but only ONE can be active.)
Numpad 5 = Normal Fire(Of course Automatic shooting.)
Numpad + = EE
Numpad 4, 6 = Drone usage(Two active at same time, once per recharge, of course)

T = Pauses the game, going to the Inventory Screen.
R = Unused Function.

I know it sounds clunky, but I think it might work out quite well once you get used to it.

Basic ideas for the sequel / Suit Design Ideas
August 09, 2010, 05:05:29 PM
So that's where I got the idea from on the current sprite suit design I'm doing. :P
From the other thread we had a discussion about the suit and making it more "modern" but within the realm of what the former DP suit that Miria used in the original TGL.

There's plenty of ideas, but I suggest this one(Not done yet.) of Lydia.

If you have any own ideas or anything, then please say so or even show your own.
Still need to fix the backpack engine but never been good with mechas.

Basic ideas for the sequel / Music Samples
June 09, 2010, 12:45:46 PM
Well, let's get down to business here.

Since music is a pretty important part of any game, no matter where or what, we're to make sure that it should fit well with the current background on that stage.

So let's keep it simple, for you people here who like to create musics, here's alittle work for you.

I want to have a 10 second Sample(MAX 10 seconds.) of a music influenced by the Original TGL sound track.
This sample must be ATLEASt 6 seconds to MAX 10 seconds long.
The purpose of this is to have an idea of what Tempo, rhytm, musical instrument/synth, and the overall feel of what you are trying to create.

Firstly, the first stage(The one I'm mixing about when I have time.) need something of a beginning, a average tempo with a nice heartbeat, yet with something of a positive feel to it. You may use HOW many instruments you wish.

So far, the idea of the first stage is, Sea, Beach, Farmlands(outer rim.), Forest, Entrance to city, Power station, Inside City, Crater Entrance, Crater middle.

So it's pretty diverse of what you can use, which gives you more free hand on what you can or want to produce.

Good things:
1: A nice beat, but keep it toned down
2: Varied instruments(Free hands.) Try and keep one main instrument though.
3: Somewhat Cheerful, nothing to be dreaded

Avoid Things
1: Too fast beat, it's meant as something to start off, thereby a fast beat is a bad thing.
2: Don't make it too complicated.

Well then, go ahead and gives us some samples, and once we find someone that we actually can like and have in the game, then you create the full 1 minute(max of 1 minute and 12 seconds loop.).

Something for those who love to make music to do. :)

Audio / What different genres do you prefer?
June 01, 2010, 08:01:01 PM
Several Genres song that you like?

Here's some of my own favourite examples.

Industrial: Lone Trooper
Rock Metal: Vortex Infinitum
Chiptunes: Popular Potpourri
Grunge Rock: The 12th Day
Opera inspired Orchestral: Kokia
Orchestral Pop tunes: Romancing Saga: Battle 2 ReMix.

I have a rather wide taste of music, anything that sounds good is good for me, some even more.

Well, the topic says it all.
What kind of bosses would you love to see in the sequel?

I already sprited a concept idea of a boss, a three eyed snake thing. :P

Name: Unknown?
Description: A exoskeleton snake, with most of the flesh part is hollow, and constructed mostly of skeleton bonematerial.
Three eyed, big gaping mouth, also stuck in the ground with it's body except the snake neck and head.
Attack Pattern1: Waves it's head in a slow pace of a 8, opening it's mouth once the player is right below the head to shoot several energy beams towards the player position
Attack Pattern2: Once 1 wave of 8 has been done, it'll move it's head backwards to the edge of the screen, and then strike with the head towards the player on the screen, High dmg.
Attack Pattern3: Once 25% health is left, the 8 movement pattern will change to z in a faster movement, shooting the energy beams each time it's passing, does not strike with it's head anymore.

Remember, due to the TGL game, most of the bosses had eyes being a big part of the boss, don't forget it. ;)

Work / Concept Game
May 14, 2010, 07:02:32 AM
I really start to like using the word concept as it means it's barely an idea, Not an actual working. :P

I'm just trying to understand how to make the player character feel like TGL...
And I told you, this is merely testing things out on the frame per second, and steps. and movement + Shooting for nonupgraded Variable.
Not to mention only one room.
>>
See it as a playground for the moment. Atleast until the real program + Title screen and room movement etc etc gets into play.
Creating the code from nothing up to workable game is....torture?
Mostly only is one room with a repetative background to nail the FPS/Player Object

Creating Playable Object with same control as Original TGL mode SHMUP part.

To do Prio, TGL mode Coding:
Frames adjustment to movement
Timer Code for certain events(Boss kill etc etc)(WIP)
Timeline Steps for enemies.(WIP)
Enemy Scripts + Sprites + Projectiles. (WIP)
Putting in HP + Score etc etc in the lower part of the View.(Currently testing.)
(4 = Special Wep 1, 6 = Special Wep 2, 8 = Rechargable EE.)

Moving with ASDW, Shooting with 5 Numpad(Up arrow currently.).

Decided to post on the GM forums for the Harder questions to fix.

Basic ideas for the sequel / Coding Question
May 09, 2010, 11:41:00 AM
Well, hey. :P

The question at the moment on my mind. is that if we should try and reproduce, even down to the core, to the original programming of TGL, with the graphical nature of the SHMUP in particular on how it calls up the sprites of the BG during the flyby?

I've been giving it a thought and imo from my little experience of Game Maker, it seems to be that it'll be quite tricky to make it "on the spot loading" depending on what I've read about another person who gave info about how they made the game on this very forum.

What about making the Sequel to the Game Forums to be invisble for guests but available for the members? :P

Secrecy helps!

Intro Stage current idea:
"With the probable destruction of Naju, and during the Guardian's entrance back to Earth, she encounters "IT" and defeats it.
However the IT was more tolerable and Survivable then first thought, as IT exploded, a huge "shell" of it's skull was sent towards Earth. As the humans thought it would burn up once it entered the atmosphere, they just gave a warning to the close city, Jourun, to evacuate in case of smaller debris hitting the city.

However, the shell itself was tolerable enough to not incinerate, but as it was closing into it's impact point, even evolving the Alien germs on the shell to evolve themselves to higher sentinent beings within minutes. As the shell impacted, it's impact broke the sound barrier and devastated Jourun with rock debris falling and the sound breaking the glass buildings inside Jourun.

The Human forces retaliated immediatly to the site, sending over the original Guardians, Miria and Alyssa, with the newly accepted System DPs, Lydia, Renia and Maria. To investigate the crater and if aliens were at the impact point, eliminate them and clear the city of the infestation.

As the Harrier Ship(See it as Aircraft Carrier.) neared the city of Jourun, the System DPs, Code Named "The Guardians.", set off towards Jourun to assess and dismiss the threat of the World."

This is merely the Intro stage so it's not going to be hard or anything.

As the Mission begins you will see all Guardians taking off from the Harrier Ship, and flying over water towards Jourun, during the flight we'll have a small Commander Talk and after that, all Guardians split up to clear the sectors they got ordered too, leaving the new "Playable Character" for him or herself to take the sector we'll be flying through.

As the flight of the monster seems pretty scarse at first. With the view of the Beach that it's flying over, later turning to grass, Roads and small homes, and then finally the City. As the closer we get to the mid of the city, the enemies is starting to REALLY pile up, even overwhelming. During this 20-30 seconds of flight, you were to survive and keep yourself alive, until Lydia joins into the fray as a NPC and will support your fire.

The Destruction of Jourun becomes more clear and clear, with destroyed buildings, concrete and most of the glasses shattered. At the first sight of the crater, a huge beam of matter comes from the mid of the crater and hits Lydia straight on. She will crash land on the ground below, but will survive. During this she will tell over the intercom to her fellow Guardian she is retreating due to injury.

As the closer to the crater, less and less enemies are starting to come. (It's more fair since it's a new char your playing that haven't been a guardian for a while.)

As soon we enter the impact point, we'll see a piece of "ITb", as the Shell looks something of a skull now with a "Snake" body. But the neck of the Snake head is stuck in the ground and unable to move. And this is the boss fight. Shouldn't be hard as Alyssa already weakend it before it came to earth.

As soon this fight is over, you turn around Ala TGL style and head for the Harrier.

After this, I'm pretty much blank at the moment. But so far I think the best aim is to get the Guardians to Naji.

Work / Practice Sprites(Concepts)
May 06, 2010, 10:23:20 AM
I'll add a few things here of sprites that we might use, it's mostly only for testing.

Firstly I need to find out about HOW big the screen size of the original NES/TGL in resolution, and possible also even what size of the tiles are in pixels.

Edit:
Total Screen: 256x240 = (W16x16)x16 + (H16x16)x15 Pixels
Tiles: 16x16 Pixels

And now for the little concept sprite tiles of the "Ruined City" landscape. Gonna need alot of time for this one.

The current WIP for the "City" ruins(Intro stage?)
Alot more to do. And just trying to get some ideas of what I could add to the ruins baseobjects, the textures and suchs comes into it later.
Edit: Rehashing the building pieces to try and get it to the same graphical base standard as TGL.
Current Concept sprites for Miria, Renia, Lydia and Maria.
Just something fun I tested out. :P

Simple test on how to draw boss sprites. Still need to tweak the face to give it a more horrofilled expression.

Current Ruined Alpha Test.
Current Ruined City Phase 2 Alpha Test

Current Ruined Alpha Test 3.

The current colour scheme for the "entryway" to the City Stage.

Hmm, testing out how to make the Water be "Smoother" and less pixelated stiffness during high speed scrolling.

Stage 1 Concepts.

Going to tweak their illusions further once I fix the Translate Background in GM.

Plot / The Plot Basic Discussion Thread.
April 27, 2010, 10:24:19 AM
Well, this may sound like it's more of a debate.
But let's try and brainstorm up something here.

Firstly: Should this be a stand alone game, or a sequel, or maybe even a prequel?
Secondly: If StandAlone/Sequel/Prequel, why should this exist?
(Naju got destroyed, but the Naju'ans(The aliens atleast has not been confirmed to their original source thereby getting a temporary name of Naju'ans) survived due to some of the forms being able to live in space after the Concussion Blast of the destruction of Naju, but resided in a coma in space for several/Hundred years until they found a new habitat(Earth?), Miria, being a System DP, may have been in a unaltered Age due to the Cybernetic she has gone under, and returns to be in active Duty over several decades. The Naju'ans has due to their adaptability, begun a widespread infection of Earth's own habitats, and has become quite a hostile takeover of Earth, leaving many humans(Although this is in an alternate of our own, I say that Earth's Humankind counter is around 500 Million or less.) unable to counter the attack. Miria(Along with other System DPs) becomes the defenders of several different nations, including America Asia Africa, the Poles and EU, where the infection has become quite a horrendous event. Due to that the timeline can be tweaked, there's underground High Speed traveling systems(velocity tubes) that is used by the humans and System DPs(Zelda Walk World stages), and each area where the Fly Zones will be is in the Earth's own habitat that has been changed by the Naju'ans presences, like the Amazon Jungle, Ruined Cities(Big Apple?), Africa Plains, Desert of Asia etc etc. Although they are not corridor anymore, the System DPs will be using a GPSTAU, Globan Positioning Satelite Threat Assesment Unit, which pinpoints where the larger infection comes from. The Naju'ans though have changed themselves to be quite different from their Naju Planets ecology. Due to their adaptitude, they have resumed the roles of a Queen/King of the area, once that specie has been attacked, the rest of the Area will crumble due to no order nor "life essence" that comes from the King and Queen, thereby starving to death within minutes. This is most likely due to that Food sources of Earth is more or less scarse to the point of that the Humans been un the underground for several Millenia(Meteor Crash Route of story in the previous Time Line?)

That's my brainstorm at the moment. Debate or Discuss or flat out deny, or add your own little twist to this, or take it apart, that this is a good start?

Alittle bit of a everyday mix of the more memorable songs from TGL.
