1 or 2 NES games(one of them Super Star Force).
Great Battle Gaiden 2 maybe
Also indie game - Zodiac:Story of Guardian
I don't like them, tho Zodiac is not bad.

It's only SHMUP not a cross genre. Like half of Compile's SHMUPS are similar.

How about Super Star Force on Famicom (by Tecmo Japan) ?
It's another game which is really really similar to TGL, but it's much harder.
