Videogames remastered mockups

Through years there were so much of Videogames remastered mockups created by artists. Some of them makes wonder why it is not an actual game? The answer is simple if you are in the game industry. It is over-saturated. So it’s hard to put something in between thousands of great games.

But anyway. Just wanted to share some examples of nice mockups.

First goes Super Mario Bros 2 by likelikes

https://www.deviantart.com/likelikes/art/Super-Mario-Bros-2-487611123
There are tons and tons of art done for Super Mario universe, including mockups. So there is not much to say about it. Except that it is for unusual Super Mario game. And the reason is that Super Mario Bros 2 is not really a Super Mario game. It is reskin of the Doki Doki Panic game. Tho it was heavily inspired by Super Mario, but it was not exactly the Super Mario game.

Mockup looks really cute. The author has plently of game redrawings similar to this and some other styles.

My favorite is Turrican II by jnkboy

Looks very stylish. Great drawing technique. I imagine it to be a Keyboard+Mouse control. Where player has 360 degree full control over the direction to shoot.
The author is a great artist if you are curious. He is good not only at pixel art, but at full illustrations. He has some more game mockups. For example this downgrade Bayonetta 2D Shmup

Ducktales Remastered by Simon S. Andersen

This is how a great sequel could look on PC or 16 bit console back in 90’s. Great drawing skills with care. Uncle scrooge looks as he should in a great 16 bit game. This is the author of Owlboy game by the way. So it’s no wonder this looks so good.

He also posted animated mockup of Megaman recently. it looks very nice, but I don’t like Megaman‘s standing pose. And maybe his proportions could be tweaked a bit. However the art style and colors look gorgeous. Have a look at the video with the animation:

Upscaling famicom/NES cover art

Today’s AI upscale/enlarge programs do some crazy things. Here is an example of enlarging bad quality cover art from Famicom cartridge. The result is photo-realistic female face.

I guess in near future there might appear specific AI algorithms and it would be possible to upscale a sprite into anime character. So imagine a realistic anime cut-scenes from Ninja Gaiden series. Or the final picture of Miria in The Guardian Legend.

Art inspired by our game

Sometimes there is art inspired by our loved game. I think maybe I should create a specific gallery section for this. There is not much fan stuff going on currently. But here is some music loop I created from this video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQF2j6pF5HY – it has only 1 cycle of the music. The music is from the password section and the final flight as well.

Nice TGL inpisred art

Now that’s an issue with me. Saved lot of stuff but never saved the links. So I can’t find where I found this. I remember it’s inspired by TGL and something else.

Pretty nice drawing, but I don’t think I would like to play The Guardian Legend with this type of heroine.

OK. Google image search helped. It is Stratos Guardian by Jonathan Price.

Here is what he says:

“She was a fun one. The name popped in my head because I had a bit of nostalgia thinking about one of my all-time favorite video games while working on this one, The Guardian Legend on NES.”

So I found it here: http://jonathanpriceart.net/stratos-guardian/

You can visit the Gallery for more art.
