Hardcore playing is strange. Have you played Mega Man? It’s pretty hard. But why would you want to beat it even harder than it is? But some people do. As a player who have beaten Rockman(Japanese version of Mega Man, not sure if there are any differences) I don’t even want to imagine beating it with no damage. That’s crazy challenge.
The first video is in Russian. I think not using glitches but using different weapons. And the other one is in English, no other weapons, only default weapon. But use some glitches(which doesn’t make it that much easier).
Do you want to try? I say no. Don’t torture yourself like this!

There are many homebrew projects starts out there. And it’s always hard to say will it be finished or dropped somewhere in the early build or in the middle, or even towards the 98-99% completed as how it happened with Zodiac: The Guardian Story(which is like The Guardian Legend with side view Metroid exploration, instead of top-side view). Dimension Shift is a starting homebrew NES project. Looks kinda in a way of Natsume games. Not sure, maybe it’s a hack of some Natsume game from NES?
So far not much in there. Just nice looking platforms and the character who hits with something like a sword. And very nice music playing.
Consider to drop some feedback to the author in the comments of youtube videos below.
アレスタ Aleste on Sega Mark III is great SHMUP game from Compile. Aleste series remind of Zanac overall. This one also has some similarities with MUSHA on Sega Genesis.
It has similar powerup system with Zanac for special weapons. Tho in Zanac most of weapons are forever until you die. In Aleste they end over time. Upgrading the main weapon is like in MUSHA. Maybe MUSHA even based on this game?
Zanac and Aleste games has many familiar elements with The Guardian Legend. I love the final Round 6 that starts from 28:19 in the video below. It looks totally like Naju surface. Player also shoots out the panels and reveals the bio surface under them.
The game also goes under the name Power Strike on Sega Master System. And looks the same. They are probably identical. Tho who knows maybe there some differences(for example original is quite too hard would be a good idea to lower down the difficulty).
The MSX2 version came few months later after the Mark III. It has intro and a little bit more extra levels. However visually not as good. And MSX2 scrolling not that smooth. MSX2 version is also a bit easier. Which is good because the original from Mark III is quite difficult.
Here are some screenshots from the game:
So much like Naju surface!
The final boss 1st form is totally the Naju’s first boss. Defense system on landing the Naju:
The very first level background color is terribly bright. I think that was a bad decision to make this bright green ground:
Game has Zanac type of bosses:
Nice looking space station background with a rock surface:

We are watching the progress of this game. As it’s an indie game heavily inspired with The Guardian Legend. Author considers the feedback from people and improves the game. Steel Seraph is becoming better with time.
Take a look at the recent video showing some gameplay from the current game state.
Author is very responsive. So if you have a feedback for him then go contact. He will listen! There is definitely a lot of room for improvement. And feedback from players is the best help to find weak spots and improve.
So for the Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary Nintendo announced this gadget:
And it looks like just an easy way to take money from the wallets.
I mean hey, this definitely just some basic computer with emulator in it! There are tons of handled consoles produced today. You can get cheap ones from Ali Express. And this one looks just the same type.
What you get inside? -> Super Mario Bros 1 -> Super Mario Bros 2(AKA The Lost Levels) -> Ball(Mario version) the first Game & Watch game -> Digital clock with funny animations.
And that’s all.
They could at least create a different version of the Mario with new levels. Like an exclusive 35th anniversary version. There are Mario level editors out there to modify the ROM without coding. They would not even need to program anything.
And why not to have a collection of Game & Watch games inside? That would make sense and would be cool. Their idea came from that it was 40th anniversary of Game & Watch this year April 28.
I don’t know… What do you guys think?

In Panzer Paladin player can draw custom weapons sprites. A guy from Russian fan community drew The Guardian Legend protagonist as a weapon. Looks funny. And some more cool custom weapons funny pictures. Check it out!

Through years there were so much of Videogames remastered mockups created by artists. Some of them makes wonder why it is not an actual game? The answer is simple if you are in the game industry. It is over-saturated. So it’s hard to put something in between thousands of great games.
But anyway. Just wanted to share some examples of nice mockups.
First goes Super Mario Bros 2 by likelikes
https://www.deviantart.com/likelikes/art/Super-Mario-Bros-2-487611123 There are tons and tons of art done for Super Mario universe, including mockups. So there is not much to say about it. Except that it is for unusual Super Mario game. And the reason is that Super Mario Bros 2 is not really a Super Mario game. It is reskin of the Doki Doki Panic game. Tho it was heavily inspired by Super Mario, but it was not exactly the Super Mario game.
Mockup looks really cute. The author has plently of game redrawings similar to this and some other styles.
My favorite is Turrican II by jnkboy
https://www.deviantart.com/jnkboy/art/Turrican-II-428563537 Looks very stylish. Great drawing technique. I imagine it to be a Keyboard+Mouse control. Where player has 360 degree full control over the direction to shoot. The author is a great artist if you are curious. He is good not only at pixel art, but at full illustrations. He has some more game mockups. For example this downgrade Bayonetta 2D Shmup
Ducktales Remastered by Simon S. Andersen
https://twitter.com/snakepixel/status/445292770836500480 This is how a great sequel could look on PC or 16 bit console back in 90’s. Great drawing skills with care. Uncle scrooge looks as he should in a great 16 bit game. This is the author of Owlboy game by the way. So it’s no wonder this looks so good.
He also posted animated mockup of Megaman recently. it looks very nice, but I don’t like Megaman‘s standing pose. And maybe his proportions could be tweaked a bit. However the art style and colors look gorgeous. Have a look at the video with the animation:

Have you played the Little Nemo Dream Master on NES?
Might be a good news for you. There is another one in production. It is a non-linear platformer with 4 different characters to select. Based on 1905 comic strip – “Little Nemo in Slumberland”. https://www.pfbstudios.com/games/little-nemo/
Have a look at some screens:

Lets hope this project will not stop. As some of you may remember – Rekirek Saga stopped around this phase of development. And seems never will continue.

You know. I am not a fan of 16-bit consoles era. I hate how they got obsessed with more colors. And as result a very exaggerated colorization. Ugly gradients, with too much contrast and too smooth color transition between light and dark areas. I suspect the idea was to make it look more 3D.
Another thing of the games of that era is physics. It’s really crappy often. And it’s really strange. Because NES has excellent physics in many games. I do not know how to explain this.
Alien Soldier has both of these issues. Maybe not as much as some other games. However the gameplay compensate those. It’s quite enjoyavle. The game might be hard for a casual player. It takes time to get used to. Might be very confusing at first. Recommend to read some faq on controls. As this game not give a tutorial levels explanation of each thing.
You have various weapons. And various moves/abilities like dash, hover in the air, defense ball and more. And you will need to learn to use them. I mean the use of various moves and various weapons. It might feel a bit complex at first.
So that’s not a plug and play type of game. But requires to build a skill.
The game is run and gun type. It has tons of bosses. A lot of them. It reminds of Contra Hard Corps and Gunstar Heroes. So if you looking for good and challenging run and gun, this is it. But requires learning to build a skill.
It’s quite hard game. It has 2 difficulties. Which is a joke – Super Easy, Super Hard. And the easy one is not easy at all.
