AVGN and Indiana Jones on NES

In recent episode AVGN showed The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles NES, and called it the worst of all Indiana Jones games. Which is not even close to the truth.

In reality the game is pretty good and fun. I don’t remember much of the game as we played it in 90’s just few times through. The cartridges we had usually were multigames 3-8 games on one cart. And we actively exchanged them between each other.

I remember that the game was fun enough. I think I wanted it to have more motobike ride levels.

AVGN showing the game and complaining it to be insanely hard and bad. I am not sure if he playing intentionally super bad, or was he drunk or something.

He didn’t pick up bonuses which are laying around in the boxes and contain weapons and 1 hit damage protection. He didn’t push rocks which will kill several enemies on the way. How much NES games you saw where you can push a huge boulder to smash enemies? It’s really cool!

The game is not easy, but so are many games on NES. Would you call Megaman, Castlevania, Contra, Ninja Gaiden and many others a worthless garbage just because they are hard right from the beginning? I would not.

AVGN’s video is here if you really want to. The game trashing starts from around 22:38

OVER OBJ

OVER OBJ by Little Sound Homebrew SHMUP game that tries to deliver huge amount of objects on screen at the same time.

With the compromise of background removal.

The game looks kinda generic, repetitive and very challenging. It’s a bullet hell game that will be tense all the way through. The music choice is horrible in my opinion. It does not match the cosmic atmosphere at all.

It doesn’t have any collectibles and powerups. Player has few smart bombs which also gives shield for a short time.

The game is really interesting as an experiment for pushing the limits of the NES/Famicom console. It can be a good choice for hardcore SHMUP players who looking for big challenge.

First person shooters evolution

Quite impressive transition between first person shooter games. Starting from old and going up. The game picks are the ones that author is played and liked. But still it can be considered as evolution video of the FPS games.

I remember there were browser games where you start with basic squares and then with coins or scores or exp you spend them to upgrade the game. Making it from basic squares to more and more graphically and features advanced, little by little.

FLARE NUINUI QUEST

A Megaman kind of game with Cave Story atmosphere. It’s done quite well. Solid indie game quality and it’s somehow free? There much worse platformers selling on Steam.

You can play it in browser or download here:

Playing as Casey

This kind of stuff was like a dream in childhood. Using emulator’s cheats we can make what was impossible with the game.

It did upset me Casey could not be chosen to play story mode in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters on NES.

This is possible to do using RAM address of the player position. That also means it is possible to do that with game genie. With Hothead and Shredder that would make the game crash at the battle with Shredder. On emulator it is possible to turn the cheat OFF at the place where the game crash and then turn it ON again.

Here I recorded story mode playthrough with Casey Jones. I also added fun camera edits for more interesting look.

I also prefer this game over Sega and SNES version. It has more fun gameplay and superior physics feel over them.
