What if The Guardian Legend is a platformer?(sort of)

This is fun. Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link randomizer has an option to switch sprite to another. This is how Miria sprite looks like in it. Yes she is green. But NES limitations made that way that if she was red then everything around that uses the same color would be red.

And by the way have you noticed that the music in map walking view in Zelda 2 has some similarities with The Guardian Legend start tune(Approaching Naju)?

Zelda 2 – overworld theme

The Guardian Legend – Corridor 0(Approaching Naju)

Check out the moment when Miria raise up tri-force at 2:22:35. This is a funny happy face. Also she has a kiss with Hyrule there, or is it a hug?

P.S.

Astrolancer new demo soon

Stuffman continues to develop the game “Astrolancer”(inspired by The Guardian Legend). Said he is putting out the new demo on this weekend. So, I guess, you will be able to play flying stages as well.

Lets see some past screenshots of the progress he posted.

Böbl

Simple but interesting homebrew NES game – Böbl. Modern NES games sometimes show interesting features that could exist back then. We never seen them. In this one there are kinda “physical” water splashes when you dive in and out of the water.

Also the game is free if you want to try it out on emulator. Not all emulators run it. I used Nestopia to play it.

Nostalgia song

Nice video. I have no idea what is the song about as it is in Spanish. But the video footage runs so much cool 80-90’s things, mostly retro games from various platforms. Spectrum, Amstrad, Atari, Commodore, Neo Geo, Nintendo, Sega, Azpiri, Royo, Erbe…

The cat sat on the back of its owner for 16 hours, while he was streaming a game for 17 hours.

I bet you don’t know Zhenya Bagatsky. He is a hardcore gamer from Russia. He plays games for his own fun. How I know about him? He is one of the admins in Russian retro gaming comminty that I often visit. I also heard he was a good arm wrestler.

So he posted another video play through. This time the “Namida no Soukoban Special” game on Famicom Disk System. I am not a fan of Sokoban, so I didn’t even read the annotation. But what I saw was something strange on his back. So curiously I clicked the video and figured that was a cat. And then I noticed the stream was pretty long. So I asked him about that.

And he said that the cat jumped on his back after a hour of the stream and then kept sitting for the rest of 16 hours of the stream.

Too bad he has bad lighting. That’s so adorable and amusing.

Video is split in 2 parts. Because youtube limit is 12 hours. But if you really need then here is the link to the sinlgle 17 hours video on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/886156648

The moment the cat jumps on the back is at 1:06:37

Aleste on Sega Mark III

アレスタ Aleste on Sega Mark III is great SHMUP game from Compile. Aleste series remind of Zanac overall. This one also has some similarities with MUSHA on Sega Genesis.

It has similar powerup system with Zanac for special weapons. Tho in Zanac most of weapons are forever until you die. In Aleste they end over time. Upgrading the main weapon is like in MUSHA. Maybe MUSHA even based on this game?

Zanac and Aleste games has many familiar elements with The Guardian Legend. I love the final Round 6 that starts from 28:19 in the video below. It looks totally like Naju surface. Player also shoots out the panels and reveals the bio surface under them.

The game also goes under the name Power Strike on Sega Master System. And looks the same. They are probably identical. Tho who knows maybe there some differences(for example original is quite too hard would be a good idea to lower down the difficulty).

The MSX2 version came few months later after the Mark III. It has intro and a little bit more extra levels. However visually not as good. And MSX2 scrolling not that smooth. MSX2 version is also a bit easier. Which is good because the original from Mark III is quite difficult.

Here are some screenshots from the game:

So much like Naju surface!

The final boss 1st form is totally the Naju’s first boss. Defense system on landing the Naju:

The very first level background color is terribly bright. I think that was a bad decision to make this bright green ground:

Game has Zanac type of bosses:

Nice looking space station background with a rock surface:

Steel Seraph is becoming better

We are watching the progress of this game. As it’s an indie game heavily inspired with The Guardian Legend. Author considers the feedback from people and improves the game. Steel Seraph is becoming better with time.

Take a look at the recent video showing some gameplay from the current game state.

Author is very responsive. So if you have a feedback for him then go contact. He will listen! There is definitely a lot of room for improvement. And feedback from players is the best help to find weak spots and improve.

You can find him on Twitter: https://twitter.com/steelseraphgame

AstroLancer – special weapons

Stuffman added bunch of weapons and special weapons animations. From his project AstroLancer (not sure if that will be the name of the game).

Unlike The Guardian Legend in his game the primary weapon has several options to choose.

Below some examples. You can see the full sets here 7 primary and 14 special weapons:
Primary weapons | Special Weapons page 1 | Special Weapons page 2

Lets hope this project will not stop. As some of you may remember – Rekirek Saga stopped around this phase of development. And seems never will continue.

you are LANCER TWO

A guy Stuffman on tumblr posted quite ambitious claim of game project inspired by The Guardian Legend.

you are LANCER TWO, weapon of mass destruction and property of the AUTONOMOUS SPACE-TRAVELING ROBOT ORGANIZATION, a military branch of the GALACTIC COUNCIL. you are a cutting-edge fighting machine, capable of merging with your TRUSTY LANCE to become a tiny FTL-capable spacecraft, designed to jet into the deepest reaches of space and fight alone. you may or may not have feelings. (if you do, it’s plausibly deniable).

your current mission is to travel to a mining colony at the fringe of the galaxy, which has been invaded by the dreaded VON NEUMANNS. theorized to have already infested much of Andromeda, this self-replicating menace must not be allowed to have a foothold into our galaxy!

the GALACTIC COUNCIL will take no risks with the VON NEUMANNS; upon arriving in the star system, the BLACK HOLE BOMB inside you arms itself. should you be defeated and fail your mission, it will detonate, taking you and everything in the star system with it.

the VON NEUMANNS are already doomed. can you save this lonely planet, and yourself?

(she has a more “civilian” look, but in true NES fashion, you can’t see it until you beat the game.)
