Amico Intellivision – is it going to be dead born?

A very strange presentation of Amico Intellivision on E3 came out. It seemed for me that people were excited the most about Earthworm Jim 4. And they did not show any updates of the development of the game.

The games shown in the presentation looked mostly generic and outdated. It has a feeling of Action 52 cartridge. They say it’s a casual console to play together. But there are tons of casual games on mobile phones, and a lot of them look way better and attractive. Games shown on Amico look like they are generic games from 2000-2005, that were produced by small teams.

The platformer game Finnigan Fox looks just like thousands of similar indie games you can buy on Steam. It looks OK, but not even close to the best ones.

I don’t know if this gonna be a success. Maybe there are people who would enjoy to play such games. Maybe it can take a place to play cards and dice games, and other board games.

They say they have a special controller. But the only specific thing I saw is that you can shake dices and then throw them into a screen. Maybe that is amusing, but this is not enough. Make more stuff that can be specifically done using such controller. Like pouring a salt in a cooking game. Or maybe a steering wheel of a car. Maybe interactions with objects could be done using such controller. It also should be fun to do. I did not saw something like that in the presentation.

Dolphin Quest on 7:29, similar to Ecco The Dolphin, looked OK. They say it is the same team who developed the original title. However. The only game people seemed to be excited about was Earthworm Jim 4. It probably the only game to make people buy the console. But it gotta be a really good game that can please fans of the original ones.

Irena Genesis Metal Fury

People keep making games for the old retro consoles. This is Irena Genesis Metal Fury for Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. The work in progress.

The game had successful campaign on Kickstarter, so mostly like it’s going to be finished. Tho there were cases when games got the necessary donations but then stopped. I think Sega+SHMUPs fans might be interested in such a game.

The graphics looks a bit amateur for my eye. Gameplay seems kinda OK.

Authors say it is inspired by classic games of the 90’s such as Thunder Force III / IVAero BlasterSuper Shinobi II and Contra Hard Corps.

I also see similarities with Gradius series.

Below is gameplay video of stage 1.

Metal Slug Tactics – Reveal trailer

I hope everyone knows Metal Slug series. If you don’t know – it’s a great run ‘n gun platformer. I think one of the best in this kind of games.

Leikir Studio taking the visuals and place them into a different genre – a dynamic tactical RPG with roguelike elements. There are a lot of nice tactical games on SEGA, SNES, GBA. So this idea seems a nice blend of retro and more modern roguelikes type of games.

The trailer mostly shows a nice anime scenes. Not much of gameplay. But from what it does show we can see that the pixelart is good.

GG Aleste 3 by M2

A while ago M2 company bought rights for Aleste series. The original developer was Compile. As you may know Compile developed Zanac and The Guardian Legend.

M2 created the Aleste sequel – GG Aleste 3. And it’s not just a new game. It is made on Game Gear system. So it’s a real ROM which can work on Game Gear console. It is available on Game Gear Mini. And also it is in Aleste collection on Nintendo Switch.

They captured Compile’s vibe pretty good. The game looks really nice. And has good soundtrack.

This immediately put a thought in my head. What if they could develop The Guardian Legend sequel? If someone is reading this and find this a good idea, then try to contact them and suggest them this idea.

Let us know on the forum or in The Guardian Legend’s discord chat with other fans: https://discord.gg/93C68CT

Here is the video of GG Aleste 3 full gameplay:

The Guardian Returns guitar theme

The music loosely based and inspired by the music of the game. It mostly sounds different and on its own, but a few notes reminds you the game’s music.

This could be an actual soundtrack to some sequel or something. It has very Metroid’s music feeling. Something unexplored and unsettled. Like an abandoned city.

The actual music starts from 2:42. And when I listen to it feels too short. Just when I start gettin into the theme it just ends.

What if The Guardian Legend is a platformer?(sort of)

This is fun. Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link randomizer has an option to switch sprite to another. This is how Miria sprite looks like in it. Yes she is green. But NES limitations made that way that if she was red then everything around that uses the same color would be red.

And by the way have you noticed that the music in map walking view in Zelda 2 has some similarities with The Guardian Legend start tune(Approaching Naju)?

Zelda 2 – overworld theme

The Guardian Legend – Corridor 0(Approaching Naju)

Check out the moment when Miria raise up tri-force at 2:22:35. This is a funny happy face. Also she has a kiss with Hyrule there, or is it a hug?

P.S.

Böbl

Simple but interesting homebrew NES game – Böbl. Modern NES games sometimes show interesting features that could exist back then. We never seen them. In this one there are kinda “physical” water splashes when you dive in and out of the water.

Also the game is free if you want to try it out on emulator. Not all emulators run it. I used Nestopia to play it.

Nostalgia song

Nice video. I have no idea what is the song about as it is in Spanish. But the video footage runs so much cool 80-90’s things, mostly retro games from various platforms. Spectrum, Amstrad, Atari, Commodore, Neo Geo, Nintendo, Sega, Azpiri, Royo, Erbe…

The cat sat on the back of its owner for 16 hours, while he was streaming a game for 17 hours.

I bet you don’t know Zhenya Bagatsky. He is a hardcore gamer from Russia. He plays games for his own fun. How I know about him? He is one of the admins in Russian retro gaming comminty that I often visit. I also heard he was a good arm wrestler.

So he posted another video play through. This time the “Namida no Soukoban Special” game on Famicom Disk System. I am not a fan of Sokoban, so I didn’t even read the annotation. But what I saw was something strange on his back. So curiously I clicked the video and figured that was a cat. And then I noticed the stream was pretty long. So I asked him about that.

And he said that the cat jumped on his back after a hour of the stream and then kept sitting for the rest of 16 hours of the stream.

Too bad he has bad lighting. That’s so adorable and amusing.

Video is split in 2 parts. Because youtube limit is 12 hours. But if you really need then here is the link to the sinlgle 17 hours video on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/886156648

The moment the cat jumps on the back is at 1:06:37
